Full Value Protection v. Moving Insurance

Hidalgos offers a basic Full Value Protection plan to help ensure your belongings are covered in case of damage or loss during your move. If an item is damaged, we’ll aim to repair it, and for items that are irreparable or lost, we’ll replace them up to the declared value amount.* This plan isn’t traditional insurance, meaning you don’t have to prove our negligence caused the loss or damage; it represents the value responsibility we assume for your items. For traditional insurance coverages, such as those provided by homeowners policies, consult with your insurance provider to understand specific terms and coverage options.

How does Hidalgo's basic Full Value Protection option work?

Take a moment to learn how we calculate your Full-Value Protection and the Completing the High Value Inventory Form is crucial to ensure that your high-value items receive proper protection during your move. This form allows you to list items of particular worth, so they’re accounted for separately under our Basic Full-Value Protection option. Under this protection, the total valuation is initially based on your shipment’s weight multiplied by $6 per pound. For example, a shipment weighing 6,800 lbs would have a valuation of $40,800. If you prefer increased valuation, you can adjust this amount before loading begins. This way, any high-value items are properly documented, ensuring clear coverage should anything unexpected occur.

IMPORTANT: You Need to Complete the High Value Inventory Form

When you choose the Full Value Protection option, it’s essential to use the High Value Inventory Form to document items worth $100 or more per pound—such as fine jewelry, artwork, designer clothes, high-end furniture, collectibles, and electronics. For example, a pair of earrings valued at $800 but weighing less than a pound must be declared on the form to qualify for full replacement in case of loss. Without listing such items, they won’t be covered for full value under the protection plan. By listing them, you ensure they’re eligible for compensation up to their replacement value if something unexpected happens.

Additional Protection Option and Programs

In addition to the basic Full-Value Protection option, we have an additional protection option and other programs that you can select and add to your moving quote. Not all options are available for every move; check with your move coordinator to see if they apply to your move.

Minimum Liability Valuation Option

If you opt out of the basic Full Value Protection option, the minimum valuation option required by law still provides limited coverage at $0.60 per pound per article. However, this option offers minimal compensation for lost or damaged items, leaving you financially vulnerable. For instance, if a 30-pound TV is damaged or lost during your move, the minimum coverage would reimburse only 30 pounds multiplied by $0.60 per pound, totaling just $18. This example highlights why we recommend the Full Value Protection option, which offers more substantial coverage for valuable belongings.

Increased Declaration – Full Value Protection

If you choose, you can declare a higher value than the standard Full Value Protection amount to receive additional coverage, for an extra fee. This option allows you to increase your valuation right up until we begin loading your shipment, ensuring you have flexibility in protecting your items according to their worth.

Claim Assist

Our Claim Assist program provides assistance to customers who need to complete a claim form and/or have items that need to be repaired or replaced. If you decide to opt into one of our convenience service packages, you could have the option to select one more of the following services, depending on which package you purchase.

Pairs & Sets Waiver

Hidalgos isn’t typically responsible for undamaged items that are part of a set. With Pairs & Sets Waiver, if any one item in a set is damaged and cannot be fixed or replaced to match the set, Hidalgos will waive its defense related to the undamaged items and can replace the set or pay for the entire set’s replacement value If you decide to opt into one of our convenience service packages, you could have the option to select one more of the following services, depending on which package you purchase.

Mechanical Malfunction Waiver

Absent evidence of mishandling during the move, Hidalgos isn’t typically responsible for mechanical equipment that doesn’t work after a move due to road vibrations or other typical moving conditions. With this waiver, Hidalgos movers can agree to repair or replace equipment that doesn’t work after a move.

Acts of God Waiver

Hidalgos isn’t typically responsible for loss or damage resulting from an Act of God. With Acts of God Waiver, we can repair or replace belongings in the event of loss or damage in the case of a natural disaster during the move

Additional Delay Payment

When applicable, you could receive an increased rate of compensation of up to $250 per day if your pick up or delivery is delayed past the date on your paperwork.

Increased Destination Wait Time

If you are not ready to receive your belongings at the time they are ready to be delivered as scheduled, we will extend our included wait time up to four hours.

Identity Theft Protection

You can add one year of Identity Theft Protection to your moving package with Hidalgos. For full details on coverage, please review Hidalgos’ tariff, which outlines important program terms and conditions.
